Backflow Prevention

The development of certain types of land uses require the implementation of backflow prevention measures. Back flow prevention devices mitigate the risk of backflow in to Council’s infrastructure, and must be installed at the meter, and other locations where a backflow risk exists, at all properties connected to Council’s water supply.

A properly functioning and maintained backflow prevention device will effectively prevent the risk of a reverse flow of potentially contaminated water into the drinking water supply. This requirement is risk based and dependent on the activities occurring at each property. This applies not only to business and industrial activities, but also to residential and other types of customers.
