Skatepark Seat
Artist(s) Name
Ben Eyles and local young people
Description of Work
In 2009, Snowy River Arts collaborated with the local community, artists, local businesses, community groups and Council to realise four sculpture-seats for the Park Your Arts project. The artwork, which can be found on the Lake Jindabyne foreshore, is designed to be used.
Concrete tablets are designed to resemble skateboards (or snowboards) sticking out of the ground. Timber slats connect the tablets, transforming them into seats. Skate park users got together with Eyles to paint each tablet. They were updated by Eyles in 2013; but are meant to be regularly updated by skate park users.
Artist Statement
I wanted to create a multi-purpose seat that could be used not only for sitting on but also a legal public 'canvas' for locals or visiting youths and artists to express themselves creatively and in turn create a public art gallery, accessible by all.
