Community clean-up day coming to Jindabyne
Published on 18 March 2022
The Jindabyne community is invited to a community clean-up day at the Claypits, marking the launch of Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s new litter prevention campaign, supported by the NSW Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The clean-up will take place on Saturday 9 April 2022 from 10am through 12pm, meeting at Jindabyne’s Claypits Stage to rid the park and surrounding areas of rubbish in time for Easter.
“There will be bags, gloves and claw sticks available to use. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a hat, water bottle and sunscreen,” said Resource and Waste Education Officer Edwina Lowe, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
“I’m really excited to be coordinating this great event and helping to bring the community back together for a great purpose following the isolation of COVID-19.”
Following the clean-up, there will be fresh fruit on offer and live music from local artist Beautiful Imperfections. The event is suitable and open to all ages and abilities, with stalls from Thredbo, Perisher/Vail, and NSW National Parks and Wildlife, as well as the Fire and Rescue truck all making an appearance on the day.
The clean-up is part of an EPA funded litter prevention campaign, which aims to tackle litter in hotspots highlighted by the community.
“The Claypits is always a problem area for litter and rubbish in Jindabyne as it’s such a popular place to visit for activities such as watersports, picnics and walking the dog,” said Edwina.
“With a high volume of tourist and local recreation traffic visiting the lake, much of which comes through the Claypits carpark, it’s great when our community can come together to keep our town’s most famous waterfront beautiful, safe and enjoyable for all of us.”
The event is being hosted by Snowy Monaro Regional Council in partnership with Sustainable Snowies, NSW Environmental Protection Authority and the Canberra Region Joint Organisation.
