Council adopts Funding Support for Events Policy

Event organisers in the Snowy Monaro will benefit from a new policy adopted by Council at its May meeting, with major events able to apply for up to $5000 in funding and smaller local events eligible for up to $2000.
The adoption of this policy concludes a several month long process of discussion and amendment through Council meetings and briefings, to arrive at a policy that Councillors agreed will provide flexible, appropriate, and equitable funding for local events of all kinds.
On top of the broader benefits of attracting and retaining major events in the Snowy Monaro region, this policy frees up more funding from Council’s Donations and Sponsorships program to support smaller community-based events, organisations and other initiatives that typically don’t qualify for larger grant funding opportunities.
A particular problem the Funding Support for Events Policy will address is the inflexibility of the once-yearly application window for Donations and Sponsorships. This will allow event organisers to apply for funding at any time throughout the year, which is anticipated to improve the Snowy Monaro’s ability to secure major events.
This funding was reallocated by Councillors from an allocation formally used to support the Tourism Snowy Monaro group, which means this new policy will not impose any additional costs on Council or ratepayers.
