IPART seeking feedback on Snowy Monaro Special Rate Variation
Published on 15 February 2023
Ratepayers and residents in the Snowy Monaro have another opportunity to have their say on the potential Special Rate Variation (SRV) for our region, with the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART)’s consultation underway.
A majority of councillors voted to apply for a 53% one-year SRV at an extraordinary meeting in January 2023.
IPART are now considering Council’s application against a strict set of criteria. As a part of this process, ratepayers and residents are encouraged to provide their opinion on Council’s application.
The IPART Submission Form is open for feedback until Friday 3 March 2023.

Following IPART’s consideration of Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s application, the Tribunal will issue their determination. The application for a 53% one-year SRV may be approved exactly as submitted, or IPART may decide to approve a lesser amount. IPART may also reject Council’s application entirely.
If approved, councillors will then meet to decide if, and how to implement the approved Special Rate Variation. Councillors may decide not proceed with the approved variation, to spread the increase out over a number of years, or they may implement the variation exactly as approved.
Please note: A rescission motion has been submitted for the February Council Meeting this Thursday 16 February 2023. Councillors may decide to stop the application process for the SRV, or to change Council’s application to seek a different variation percentage.
