The wait is over! Hatchery Bay Trail reopens
Published on 16 September 2022
Outdoor enthusiasts across the Snowy Monaro and adventure-seeking visitors alike will be delighted to know that Council has officially reopened Hatchery Bay Trail in time for this weekend.
The trail was closed during months of heavy rain, as exceptionally high water levels in Lake Jindabyne saw sections of the trail flooded. Following the recent welcome drop in the water level, Council has worked to address biosecurity concerns on private land traversed by the trail – and today reopened the trail to the public.
Unfortunately with a third consecutive La Niña season predicted, very high lake levels are sure to return in the coming months.
Council’s dedicated teams are working with local group Jindabyne Trail Stewardship to plan alternative routes for Hatchery Bay, ensuring that – once completed – the trail stays above water and open to the public.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our Civic Maintenance team for all their efforts in getting the trail open again, and to Jindabyne Trail Stewardship for their hard work and unwavering commitment to the region’s recreational assets.
