Due to the high numbers of platypus found in our pristine rivers and streams, the Bombala region is known as Platypus Country. Best time to see them is early morning or late afternoon, look for a V shape in the water. 

Where do you find them?

Bombala Platypus Reserve just 4.5 kms out of town. A viewing platform out over the river ensures you get a great view of these charming animals. 

Members of Platypus Pals are working on extensive native plantings and have assisted with the installation of additional information boards and the construction of two bird hides.

 

Bombala River Walk an all weather walking track follows the river as it winds through Bombala township and offers excellent platypus viewing spots.  The Walk connects to the self guided walk  around Railway Park via distinctive interpretative signage and features a number of public artworks including a beautiful rock sculpture that commemorates 100 years of ANZAC.  

In spring the river banks are a blaze of yellow thanks to the hundreds and hundreds of daffodil bulbs planted by the Bombala and District Garden Club, autumn sees the european trees planted along the river adding a splash of colour while in summer the same trees provide leafy green shade. 

  

Delegate River as it flows through the Delegate Caravan Park. Enjoy your morning coffee as you watch for the platypus. Delegate Platypus Walk follows the Delegate River and features native plantings.
